Exterior of The Cotton Mill wedding venue in McKinney, Texas

There are weddings we photograph that are beautiful.

There are weddings that are ridiculously FUN.

And then there are weddings that somehow become something even bigger—a day filled with so much personality, family, emotion, style and genuine JOY that you know while you're photographing it that this one is going to stick with you.

The Cotton Mill McKinney wedding venue on Megan and Joel’s wedding day

Megan and Joel’s wedding at The Cotton Mill in McKinney was absolutely one of those days.

And yes—THAT Joel Freeman and Megan Ewoldsen.

Joel Freeman Fitness has built an incredible name in the fitness world, and Megan has created a huge community of her own while building a fitness-based business. They are both successful, driven and incredibly well known in their space, so we already knew this wedding was going to have some serious energy.

What I didn’t fully expect was just how deeply personal and family-centered their wedding would be.

Because underneath everything they have built professionally, this day wasn’t about followers, businesses, fitness or any of the things people might recognize them for.

It was about their people.

Their kids.

Their parents.

Their siblings.

The family they already had—and the family they were officially bringing together.

And THAT became the heart of the entire wedding.

A Wedding Day Built Around Real Life

From the beginning, Megan and Joel wanted their wedding coverage to actually feel like them.

Not stiff.

Not overly posed.

Not a production where everyone spends the entire day worrying about the camera.

They wanted the REAL stuff.

The chaos. The laughing. The kids. The champagne. The personalities. The glam. The ridiculous moments. The quiet moments. The family relationships. And all those little interactions happening in between the big events.

Basically...our DREAM wedding day.

We photographed and filmed their entire experience while also providing wedding-day content creation, which meant our team was able to capture their story in three completely different ways: timeless wedding photography, cinematic wedding videography and those fast, fun, vertical behind-the-scenes moments that make you feel like you're right back inside the day.

And Megan’s bridal suite was the PERFECT place to start.

Matching PJs, Special Drinks and a Whole Lot of Personality

Forget standing perfectly still in matching pajamas and smiling politely at the camera.

That was NOT this crew.

Megan spent the morning surrounded by her daughters, her sister, her mom and some of the women closest to her. There were matching PJs and slippers, special drinks, laughing, movement and all the gloriously real-life energy we love so much.

We wanted the photos to feel candid because the morning itself WAS candid.

At the same time, our content creation coverage gave us permission to play.

We created transitions, champagne moments, dress reveals, spins, bouquet shots and some seriously fun bridal content while still leaving room for everything happening naturally around us.

One minute Megan was laughing with everyone in the bridal suite.

The next she was completely transformed into THE BRIDE.

And good grief, was she stunning.

There were dramatic veil moments, glam portraits and one of my favorite kinds of images—the ones where a bride gets to simply OWN the fact that she feels incredible.

Because bridal portraits do not always have to be soft and delicate.

Sometimes we want drama.

Sometimes we want movement.

Sometimes we want editorial.

Sometimes we want the doors to open slowly and everyone to collectively think...

OH. MY. GOSH.

Mission accomplished.

One of the Sweetest First Looks of the Day

But one of Megan’s most meaningful moments wasn't about the dress at all.

It was her first look with her son, Abe.

THIS is why I love weddings centered around family.

A wedding is obviously about two people choosing each other, but when children are part of that story, the meaning becomes so much bigger.

We gave Megan and Abe space to actually experience that moment together while we photographed the little looks, hugs and candid interactions between them.

Those are the photographs that become priceless.

Not because they're perfectly posed.

Because they're theirs.

Meanwhile, Over in the Groom’s Suite...

Joel and his crew brought an entirely different kind of energy.

And we LOVED IT.

His getting-ready photos included his son, finishing touches, boutonniere moments, dapper groom portraits and plenty of the fun, completely unscripted interactions that happen when you put the guys together and let them be themselves.

We also recorded private vow readings from both Megan and Joel.

I LOVE incorporating audio like this into wedding films because it adds an entirely different emotional layer to the final story. Suddenly you're not just watching what happened—you can hear what they were thinking and feeling before they ever walked into the ceremony.

And then, because apparently gorgeous groom portraits weren't enough...

Joel got his own trailer.

YES.

A GROOM TRAILER.

Because why should brides get all the cinematic fun?

The Cotton Mill Was MADE for This Wedding

The Cotton Mill in McKinney is one of those wedding venues that gives us endless possibilities.

The texture.

The industrial architecture.

The huge spaces.

The dramatic light.

The character.

It can be romantic, editorial, edgy, glamorous or completely timeless depending on how you photograph it.

For Megan and Joel, we leaned into ALL OF IT.

Their portraits had movement and attitude while still giving them those timeless photographs that will matter decades from now.

And their wedding party?

They understood the assignment.

We created everything from classic group photographs to shots of Megan and Joel kissing with their wedding party behind them, walking sequences, sunglasses, movement and one particularly fabulous groom absolutely stealing the show.

Joel walking straight toward the camera, throwing on the glasses, grabbing the bouquet, taking Megan’s hand and continuing on like the entire Cotton Mill belonged to him?

ICONIC.

But Family Was Always the Center

After Megan and Joel officially became husband and wife, we intentionally carved out plenty of space for family photographs.

Not just one giant obligatory group photo.

Their actual relationships.

Megan with her mom.

Megan with her dad.

Joel with his mom.

Joel with his dad.

Parents, siblings, spouses, extended family and—again and again—the kids.

We photographed Megan and Joel with all of the children together, Megan with the kiddos, Joel with his daughters and Abe, and so many different combinations of the people who helped shape their lives.

Because years from now, those images will mean more than anyone can possibly understand on the wedding day.

People change.

Kids grow.

Families evolve.

And photographs become history.

That is one of the biggest reasons I will NEVER rush through family photographs just because the reception is waiting.

These people matter.

A Private Reception Room Reveal

Before the party officially began, Megan and Joel got a moment to see their reception space together.

I adore reception room reveals because couples spend months planning these rooms.

The tables.

The cake.

The florals.

The lighting.

The tiny details.

Then suddenly the wedding day arrives, hundreds of things are happening at once, and sometimes they barely get to LOOK at what they created before guests fill the space.

So we let them have that moment.

Meanwhile, our second photographer captured the untouched reception details so they would have photographs of the room exactly as it looked before the celebration began.

This is also one of the reasons having a wedding photography TEAM can make such a difference.

While one thing is happening, something else is ALWAYS happening.

And we want it all.

Sunset at The Cotton Mill

And then...

SUNSET.

You already know I am not letting a gorgeous Texas sunset disappear without stealing my bride and groom for a few minutes.

Megan and Joel gave us romance, movement, veil shots, snuggles, kisses and editorial moments while that beautiful evening light wrapped around them.

We photographed them walking toward one another as Megan’s veil fell around them.

We played with the bouquet.

We created glamorous ring moments.

We let them move.

We let them laugh.

We let them BE THEM.

This is where our photography style really comes alive.

I will absolutely guide you.

I will tell you where to stand.

I will fix the dress.

I will watch the light.

I will give you movement and prompts when you need them.

But then I want you to forget about me.

Because the magic happens when the pose turns into a moment.

And Then There Was THAT Dance

Okay.

We need to talk about THE DANCE.

Because if you know Megan, you KNOW this was never going to be a simple little sway-around-the-dance-floor situation.

Megan is an accomplished competitive dancer, so when she and Joel planned a fully choreographed wedding dance, expectations were HIGH.

And somehow...

Megan and Joel making their grand entrance into their wedding reception

THEY STILL BLEW EVERYONE AWAY.

This wasn't just a first dance. It was a full-on PERFORMANCE—and the entire room knew they were witnessing something special.

The choreography. The chemistry. The attitude. The transitions. The way these two completely owned that dance floor.

IT. WAS. A. WHOLE. VIBE.

And Joel absolutely showed UP.

Newlyweds celebrating during their Cotton Mill reception entrance

Watching the two of them together was one of those moments where their personalities made perfect sense. Megan brought the dancer energy, Joel matched her every step, and together they turned their wedding reception into a SHOW.

The guests were completely locked in, cheering them on while our photo, video and content creation team covered it from every possible angle.

And THIS is exactly why having all three forms of coverage was so incredible for their wedding.

The photographs captured the expressions, movement and reactions from their family and friends.

The wedding film preserved the choreography and energy of the performance.

And the content creation coverage captured those immediate, shareable moments that basically screamed, “YOU HAD TO BE THERE.”

It was bold.

It was fun.

It was completely unexpected.

And it was SO Megan and Joel.

Of all the incredible moments from this Cotton Mill wedding, their choreographed dance is absolutely one we'll be talking about for a LONG time.

And Then This Party WENT OFF

Once the reception started, the entire energy shifted.

Grand entrance.

First dance.

Dinner.

Cake.

Family.

Music.

Sunglasses.

And one VERY important hot dog cart.

Naturally, we photographed that too.

There were hilarious family cake photos, dramatic guest portraits, fun photos in glasses and all the completely unpredictable moments that make a reception feel alive.

At one point Megan stole Joel’s glasses while they were snuggled together, and it's exactly the kind of tiny moment we love because you can't manufacture that chemistry.

You can plan a beautiful wedding.

You can plan incredible details.

But you cannot fake connection.

These two have it.

One Wedding. Three Ways to Remember It.

One of my favorite things about Megan and Joel’s wedding was getting to tell their story through photography, videography AND wedding-day content creation.

Each one serves a completely different purpose.

Photography freezes those split seconds you want hanging on your walls twenty years from now.

Wedding film gives you the voices, movement, vows, laughter and emotion.

And content creation catches the fast, spontaneous, behind-the-scenes pieces of the experience—the transitions, little videos, reactions and FUN that you want to relive almost immediately.

Together?

It's the whole story.

And when one creative team is working together across all three, we can plan those pieces intentionally instead of having three separate vendors competing for the same moments.

We know what the photographer needs.

We know what the videographer needs.

We know what will translate beautifully into vertical content.

And most importantly, we know when to STOP directing and let real life happen.

Megan + Joel, What a DAY

This wedding was glamorous.

It was emotional.

It was editorial.

It was hilarious.

It was loud.

It was tender.

And underneath every bit of it was FAMILY.

Watching Megan and Joel celebrate surrounded by their children, parents, siblings and the people who know them beyond the businesses and the public personas was incredibly special.

They didn't just plan a gorgeous Cotton Mill wedding.

They created an experience that felt completely, unapologetically THEM.

And we got to capture the whole thing.

What an absolute honor.
